Who this is for

Use this guide when you are setting up Hermes Agent on Windows for the first time and want to connect it to UAI with an API key.

Before you start

Prepare three things: a Windows machine, the Hermes offline installer, and a UAI account with an API key. The Base URL for Hermes should be https://uai99.com/v1.

1. Run the installer

Open the Hermes installer folder and double-click Install-Hermes.cmd.

Run Install-Hermes.cmd

2. Wait for automatic installation

The script checks the system, verifies the offline package and installs dependencies automatically.

Hermes installation starts

3. Close the window after success

When the installer says Hermes has started and the environment checks passed, close the window.

Hermes installation completed

4. Open settings

In the Hermes main window, click the gear icon in the upper-right corner.

Open Hermes settings

5. Open Appearance

Select Appearance on the left. You can adjust language, theme and display preferences here.

Open Appearance settings

6. Switch language

Choose 简体中文 if you want the interface to match the Chinese screenshots.

Switch language

7. Open Providers and API keys

Go to Providers, then API Keys, and choose Local / custom endpoint.

Choose Local custom endpoint

8. Enter the UAI endpoint and key

Set the endpoint to:

https://uai99.com/v1

Paste your UAI API key in the second field, then connect.

Enter UAI Base URL and API key

9. Copy the key from UAI

On uai99.com, open API Keys, copy the key created for Hermes, and paste it back into Hermes.

Copy API key from UAI

Use separate keys for separate clients when possible. It makes usage tracking and revocation much easier.

10. Pick a model and chat

Open the model picker in Hermes, choose a model under the UAI99.COM group, and send a short test message.

Choose a UAI model

Troubleshooting

  • If the connection works but the model list is empty, make sure the Base URL includes /v1.
  • If chat returns quota, balance or 403 errors, check the UAI balance, API key status, group permissions and selected model.
  • If a long conversation becomes slow or expensive, start a new chat to avoid carrying unrelated history.
  • If a full API key is exposed in a screenshot or support message, delete it in UAI and create a new one.
